Account Manager


Summary

Use a consultative approach to prospect new accounts; establish and maintain profitable relationships with customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Consult with customers to ascertain needs and provide recommendations for strategy and product solutions.
  2. Develop new industry and customer relationships
  3. Strengthen existing profitable industry and customer relationships.
  4. Achieve monthly sales targets to increase revenue and company profitability.
  5. Conduct analysis on current accounts and develop new revenue-increasing strategies.
  6. Effectively present, educate and discuss products and services of the company.
  7. Work all assigned accounts in portfolio and document all activity in designated system.
  8. Establish and maintain continuous communication and follow-up with key customers and design and manage activities to ensure customer satisfaction and strong business relationships.
  9. Execute in-person customer meetings with designated top accounts annually.
  10. Administer contract business ensuring that all signed contracts are completed as specified in the agreement.
  11. Adhere to established guidelines for sales and pricing process and procedures.
  12. Actively attend and participate in sales meetings, customer visits, product seminars, trade shows and similar events and activities.
  13. Utilize Sales Support Associates, and Sales Associate as appropriate, to support sales efforts including qualifying prospective customers’ needs, as well as for administrative support and customer service.
  14. Verify accuracy of all paperwork that is turned in to eliminate errors that impact the customers and the company.
  15. Maintain knowledge of the steel industry based on information disseminated internally in order to provide the highest level of service to customers and prospects.
  16. Special projects and other job related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Seven years’ proven flat rolled steel sales experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Finance or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Technologically savvy with experience in MS Office products and Windows-based computer applications.

  • Highly motivated self starter with the desire and ability to work autonomously and show consistent professionalism and good judgment.
  • Proven track record of sales goal attainment in a highly competitive environment.
  • Proven negotiation skills and creative selling ability.
  • Ability to successfully close on business and negotiate contracts.
  • Ability to overcome objections and persevere in the face of criticism, obstacles and rejection.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas with customers and all levels of the organization.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to work effectively in a fast paced and high stress environment.
  • Innovative problem solver with the ability to gather and interpret information.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, accept responsibility and follow through without close supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten years proven flat rolled steel sales experience.

Reporting Relationships / Scope

  • Works under the general supervision of: Director of Sales.

Additional

  • Must be able to work outside normal business hours/days as needed.
